Back for Moore
Julianne Moore may be one of Hollywood's most respected actors now (she's one of only nine to ever get two Oscar nominations in one year -- for 'Far From Heaven' and 'The Hours' in 2002), but the flame-haired performer got her start playing half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina on the soap 'As the World Turns.' We take a walk down memory lane and recall the 'Forgotten' star's earliest roles... -- Kelly Woo
Now Appearing In:
Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992)
After plugging away in unremarkable TV movies, Moore got her first big break: Director Curtis Hanson cast her as feisty family friend Marlene, who uncovers the true identity of evil nanny Rebecca De Mornay and proves that getting good childcare really is impossible.
Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag (1992)
The redhead's career began to heat up, and she landed another supporting role -- as wallflower Betty Lou's (Penelope Ann Miller) flighty sister -- thanks in part to her hair color. Luckily, Moore doesn't have to depend on physical resemblance to get a job anymore.
Body of Evidence (1993)
All 'Evidence' points to one undeniable fact: This smutty thriller (and Madonna vehicle) is Moore's skeleton in the closet. As Willem Dafoe's jilted wife, she at least gets to slap the Material Girl (for, we assume, causing this movie to exist), but otherwise, the cinematic screamer is DOA.
Benny and Joon (1993)
Moore can say she's worked with heartthrob Johnny Depp. Not as his love interest, though, but as the kind waitress/failed actress whose cheesy horror flick Depp's sweetly simple Sam knows by heart. But it is a romance, so she does get the guy... the titular Benny (Aidan Quinn).
The Fugitive (1993)
Moore was originally supposed to play Harrison Ford's love interest, but filmmakers didn't want him to fall for someone so soon after his wife's murder. Instead, she took the small part of a doctor whose suspicions are raised when Ford, posing as a janitor, saves a sick boy's life.
